Gakomeye spreads across a saddle in the hills near Nyamagabe, in Rwanda'a Southern Province (map).

Most of the poorer families subsist through casual labour in fields, or working on government funding terracing projects. The usual rate of pay is less than US$1 per day, and work is not available every day.

Self help groups arrived in Gakomeye in October 2016. We will follow Julienne, Claudine, and Justine as they join a self help group and work to transform their lives.
