Ethiopian Red Cross - Moringa and Goats

The Hamer tribe in South Omo lost most of their goats during an extended severe drought. Goats to the Hamer provide milk for their children, meat, and are a store of value to fall back on in difficult times. In 2018 the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, funded by the Austrian Red Cross Society, restocked goats to families most affected by the drought and distributed Moringa seedlings. The Moringa tree is drought resistant and provides highly nutritious seeds from large pods. The seeds can be ground and made into a milk substitute for children in emergencies.
