Journey to Lo Manthang

An 11 day trek from up the Mustang valley from Jomsom to Lo Manthang and back.

We started in early April, when most of the winter's snow has melted but before spring has arrived. The valley was stunning in it's monochrome beauty, the constrained palette changing as we move through geology and mythology. But spring was making its rush, and some scenery was greener on our return than it had been a week before.

Mustang is an easy place to feel small, walking through a massive layered landscape. In the valley we were between 2500m and 4000m, with 5000m+ ridges to our sides; behind those were the 7000m+ giants covered in snow.

Lo Manthang, the capital of Mustang region - not far from Tibet - is a medieval town of twisting lanes, monasteries, and packed in buildings.
